? A Landmark Agreement in Copenhagen: Within the framework of General Secretary and President To Lam’s state visit to Denmark, APM Terminals (the port operating arm of A.P. Moller – Maersk, the world’s second-largest shipping line) officially signed a Strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hateco Group. The project aims to study and develop a next-generation rail freight network in Northern Vietnam, with an estimated total investment of up to $3.5 billion.
? SCALE & BREAKTHROUGH VISION OF THE PROJECT:
Strategic Infrastructure Connectivity: The project is planned to include 1 major rail container terminal in Hai Phong and 3 rail freight facilities across key northern provinces.
Multimodal Sea-Rail Intermodal Connection: The network will directly link industrial parks, logistics hubs, and manufacturing zones to deep-water seaport systems, optimizing container transshipment between rail and sea.
Digitalization & Green Logistics: End-to-end integration of digital technology in management, cargo handling, and warehousing; reducing pressure on road transport, shortening transit times, lowering logistics costs, and cutting carbon emissions.
Expanding Cross-Border Trade: Driving international intermodal freight routes to position Vietnam as a vital hub in the global supply chain.
? A STEPPING STONE TO ELEVATE VIETNAM'S LOGISTICS POSITION The strategic synergy between APM Terminals' (Maersk) global port operating capabilities and supply chain expertise, paired with Hateco’s premier domestic infrastructure, promises a major turning point for Vietnam's transportation infrastructure and logistics industry in a new era.
